Donor Opportunities

Capital Commitments
When talking about capital support one typically thinks of “bricks and mortar.” However, capital commitments offer so much more. Private gifts can support the creation and upkeep of technology supported classrooms, state-of-the-art laboratories, student resource centers and patient care areas, to name a few.

We ask you to consider a gift to support current and future capital endeavors (click here).

A number of naming opportunities are available in Faser Hall and the National Center for Natural Products on the Oxford campus and the soon-to-be constructed pharmacy practice building on the University of Mississippi Medical Center campus in Jackson. Naming opportunities range from a commitment from $5,000 to $5 million. If you’d like more information, please contact Sarah Hollis, Director of Development, (shollis@olemiss.edu) at 800-340-9542.

Student Support
The average student loan debt exceeds $49,000 for today’s pharmacy graduate. Scholarships help defray the financial burden as well as provide a reward for hard work and diligent studies. Hundreds of students have benefitted from the generosity of loyal alumni and friends through the general scholarship fund. Please consider a gift to support our students.

A scholarship endowment is a gift to the University of Mississippi Foundation where the principal remains intact in perpetuity and the annual earnings are used to support students. An endowment requires a gift or pledge of at least $25,000, which can be paid in total or fulfilled over a period of years. If you’d like more information on establishing a named scholarship endowment, please contact Sarah Hollis, Director of Development, (shollis@olemiss.edu) at
800-340-9254.

Faculty Support
The School of Pharmacy consistently ranks among the top five schools of pharmacy nationally. This accolade is due in large part to the dedicated faculty, researchers and staff. The accomplishments of our faculty members enable the school to be successful in achieving our goals within the three-fold mission of education, research and patient care.

Your gift can help support academic endeavors by providing the structure to attract the brightest minds and retain distinguished faculty already a part of the Ole Miss family. We ask you to consider an unrestricted gift to the faculty support fund. Unrestricted gifts give the dean the flexibility to address unexpected needs and opportunities in a timely fashion.

Several funds exist that were created to honor long-time faculty and staff. Funds from these endowments are used to support scholarships, graduate students, travel and annual awards. For more information on contributing to one or more of these funds or to create your own named endowment to support faculty, please contact Sarah Hollis, Director of Development,
(shollis@olemiss.edu) at 800-340-9254.

Planned Gifts
Since its founding in 1848, The University of Mississippi has benefited from the foresight and generosity of people who have invested in the future by naming the university as a beneficiary in their wills. As tax laws changed, many other gift plans emerged, and each year these planned gifts have added to the value of the university's endowment and provided funds for scholarships, professorships, research, facilities, library books, lectureships and many other specific programs to enhance academic excellence. Those who have made commitments to the university through planned gifts have left significant legacies and have truly become partners in the growth and development of The University of Mississippi.

What Is The 1848 Society?
The 1848 Society was established in 1998, the university's 150th year. The society recognizes alumni and friends of the university who have either funded or planned a deferred gift, such as a bequest or a life income plan.

Qualifications for Membership
Anyone who has an estate gift planned for Ole Miss or who has completed a life income trust, retained life estate gift or other charitable trust plan for Ole Miss is eligible for membership in the 1848 Society. For example, The University of Mississippi Foundation can be made the beneficiary of donors' estates through specific bequests written in a donor's will or by being named the beneficiary of a life insurance policy or retirement plan. Donors who establish life income plans, retained life estates or other charitable trusts that benefit the university, whether Ole Miss manages the plan or not, also qualify.

Gift plans that confer membership eligibility include the following:

  • Simple bequests
  • Life income gifts, including immediate or deferred-payment charitable gift annuities, charitable remainder annuity trusts or unitrusts
  • Retained life estate gifts
  • Charitable lead trusts that pay income to the university
  • Designation of Ole Miss as beneficiary of a life insurance policy or retirement plan

If you’d like more information on planning a deferred gift, please contact Sarah Hollis, Director of Development, (shollis@olemiss.edu) at 800-340-9254.
